Increased human interaction and the advancement in technology have transformed our lives to a significant level. In the globalized economy of today technology and particularly broadband communication technologies drive innovation in all sectors of the economy including trade, education, health, energy and creates employment as well as socio economic opportunities and more efficient service delivery for the citizens. As the role of the Information Communication Technology (ICT) has evolved into an enabler of growth, it is very important to provide universal, affordable and equitable access to ICTs to the people.
Government of Pakistan has accorded highest priority to the development of ICT infrastructure, services and applications for the provision of quality services, education, employment generation, and women empowerment. Through Ministry of Information Technology (MoIT), Virtual University, Universal Service Fund Company and National ICT R&D Fund Company, the Government has initiated a range of successful programs to promote ICT opportunities for the people of Pakistan.
It is my firm belief that access to technology brings socio-economic development and plays an important role in all strata of society, while providing depth and resilience to the national economy. It is heartening to see that implementation of the much awaited telecommunications and ICT sector initiatives like launching of the Telecommunications Policy 2015 and 3G/4G rollout, through world acclaimed transparent processes, has brought Pakistan to the cutting edge of technology, enabling it to achieve new frontiers of advancement resulting into expansion in the economy to improve service delivery and open up new opportunities for employment, business and income generation.
I urge the global investment and innovation community to tap the wide opportunities that Pakistan of today presents with improved investment climate, economic indicators and much stronger infrastructure. I wish the Ministry and other stakeholders good luck in the future endeavors and reiterate our resolve to fully support all initiatives to improve the lives of our citizens through the use of ICTs.
Mr. Muhammad Nawaz Sharif,
Prime Minister of Islamic Republic of Pakistan
